Pantone:

Had an idea for pantone make up.. however.. it's already been done.. I don't know where I can develop this product.. and make it look a bit more feminine.. but then I think the simplicity makes it good.. need to talk to people.. see what they think.. however.. I could only find these images.. no compact powder for face or lipstick.. so I could come up with my own range..

Packaging Range:

I like how the range of cosmetics are consistent in colour and branding.. the logo is seen in the middle at the top on the packaging.. images are the same.. goes well as a collection..

Really like the spot varnish on the black.. looks quite expensive looking, and with the handwritten typeface..quite modern..

Reminds me abit of animal print.. but very simplistic.. possibly using the eye liner pen as the texture of the line.. could experiment with textures of other make up.. mascara, powder, blusher, foundation, nail varnish, lipstick/gloss..

Using black is really limited, however, the silver and black really works, and looks very chic.. Simply using the dots I think is effective.. reminds me of the night sky..

I like the idea of the packaging reflecting mountains and nature.. The way they are put together shows the full image.. really effective..

Point of Sale:

Gift set:

Came across this website.. think it will help with some ideas..

Looking at it a bit more.. not that great.. but has a few good ideas, and may be useful for other briefs.. retail design and a burlesque event I have been asked to promote..

Colour:

Few ideas for colour: Natural looking.. As this is what most women want to look like when wearing makeup..

Rationale and Research

Rationale:
A branding investigation in fashion retail, with a focus on print media.

This year I intend on looking into the retail industry more, and see what kind of graphics are around. I want to look into branding products and making a brand for a company, through packaging, posters, events..
I want to make my work look more professional and commercial this year, so hopefully my briefs will give me the chance to do this.

Proposed research areas & themes:
The briefs that I have chosen are all print based and are subjects I have a bit of interest in and are relevant to the areas I would potentially like to work in.
One area I'd like to look into a bit more is packaging.. I would like it to be a bit 'boutiquey', giving me a bit of leeway with doing some hand craft like design, with some different styles of print..
I would also like to look into point of sale, which is really relevant to my dissertation proposal, I would like to look at what gets consumers attention, and how an interesting P.O.S will influence someone to buy into the product.

Proposed visits:

Books:

Texts:

Websites/online resources:

Additional activities:
Interviews for dissertation

Rationale and Briefs:

Dissertation title:
What impact does Graphic Design have on the retail industry?

Dissertation tutor:
Andy Broadey

Rationale:
A branding investigation in the retail industry with a focus on print media.

Statement of intent:
I will need to be inducted into the print workshops, I have done some screen print, but I need to go over it again, as it has been a while since I have last done it.
Doing this will give me the opportunity to print on different medias.
Research into retail graphics is something I will be doing throughout the year, as it is part of my dissertation and has a lot to do with what I want to do in the future.
It will help me understand the industry more and what they are looking for. Also into P.O.S, as I haven't researched it too much the past few years, so haven't been able to use it to its full potential..
I would like to do another book making induction, as it has been ages since the last induction and I haven't managed to get the opportunity to make a book, however, this year, I intend on making a look book of some kind.
